Lesson Two: (FREE)

Concept

Before taking the next steps, it is important to dedicate some time to your podcast concept.

Ask yourself, who is your show for? 

Who is your audience?

No one is going to listen to you just because. You may be awesome, and I would guess by that the fact that you are here supports that, but it takes more than your awesomeness to create a show that will attract listeners.

When we were creating our show, we knew we wanted to serve families. But not just any family. We wanted to serve families on the road to Financial Independence.

But the analysis didn't stop there. We had to ask, what would the ideal family look like? What backgrounds. Where are they in the FI journey. Are we going to be intentional about being inclusive? If that is the case - then we have to make sure that everything we are doing on the show is targeted to our ideal listener.

Who are we going to reach that other shows have not, or that we can do better?

The next question you will want to ask is, what need are you filling? This does not mean that you have to be the only show that covers your show topic. 

There are a lot of shows out there that likely cover your topic/style of show. 

Can you deliver your show in a different way?

Do you have a unique perspective?

Many times a listener will come to a show simply because YOU are relatable. This is where your awesomeness DOES matter.

Do your listeners connect with you?

That is what we have strived to do on our show. We strive to be ourselves. To be transparent. We know we are not the only FI related show out there - but we try to make sure we are building relationships with our listeners and touching their lives in positive ways.

Will your show stand out in some way?

A friend of mine has added guest games into her show. It makes her show fun and different and unlike any other show out there.

What Will Make Your Show Stand Out? Or what can you do better or differently than other shows?

Exercise 2:

With your ideal guest in mind, think of the following things. These are not set in stone at this point, we will continue to develop these as the course progresses, but you want to start considering them.   

Podcast Title - You want to begin thinking of a title and doing a preliminary search out there. One of the beginner mistakes Wendy made with a different podcast idea was to pick a name and create a logo putting in several hours work only to learn that there was another very popular podcast with a very similar name. It was a Rookie mistake. Don't make the same mistake.

●     Is It Available - Check podcast platforms and website domains.

●     Is It Available On All Platforms? Podcasts are promoted heavily on social media. Is your handle available and can you make is consistent across all platforms. (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest...etc.)

Description - create a description for your show. Create both a short and a long one.

●     Short - A one-line description of your show.

●     Long - A more detailed description of about one paragraph in length. This can be in 1st or 3rd person. Key Words - think of about five to seven keywords you want to be associated with your show to incorporate in your website, podcast descriptions and social media.
